Girl dinner never tasted so good
By Vanessa Pascale

Perched on the mezzanine level of Four Seasons Hotel Atlanta is Midtown’s acclaimed restaurant, Bar Margot. For over a decade, this intimate milieu has been attracting client meetings, date nights, girls/guys nights, as well as those seeking late-night bites and well-made nightcaps.
Bar Margot is known for their American and internationally-influenced dishes infused with a Southern flair and award-winning craft cocktail program that utilizes premium spirits, fresh ingredients, and house-made garnishes.

Recently, Executive Chef Axel Torres introduced a more refined menu with standouts that include The Margot Smash Burger with double patties, bacon, and Thousand Island; Georgia Shrimp & Grits finished in Cajun cream; and a late-night Hanger Steak with chimichurri and fries.

“When guests arrive, they are most excited for our seasonally-changing food menu, progressive cocktails, and having a place that’s a destination for the neighborhood, and not just a hotel bar,” says Garn McCown, Bar Margot lead bartender.
Bar Margot has an inventive list of speciality libations, including two widely beloved signature cocktails: Lazy Suze-N (cucumber infused with Don Fulano Blanco, spicy hibiscus agave, lime, Suze) and Gin Margot (Monkey 47, Limoncello, lime oleo, tonic).

Last Thursday, we popped into Bar Margot for dinner and were seated near the bustling bar in a plush, crescent-shaped banquette. Our culinary journey began with a crisp glass of Sauvignon Blanc and addictive potato chips. We decided to go the “girl dinner” route (a delicious combination of light bites) to satiate our sweet, salty, and savory cravings.
We ordered a number of small plates: Tuna Sashimi with ponzu and dried miso; Crab & Shrimp toast layered with avocado purée; Four Seasons Deviled Eggs with piment d’Espelette, and Margot Chicken and Caviar with crème fraîche and chives. And, of course, House Frites with truffle oil and parmesan cheese – a girl-dinner staple.

Our fare arrived perfectly plated: a clean, simple, yet colorful aesthetic. The tuna sashimi was everything you desire sushi to be: light, fresh with a buttery texture and delicate hints of ponzu and miso. The avocado toast was topped with hearty chunks of succulent crab meat and shrimp, while the deviled eggs were rich in flavor and happily devoured in one bite. The crunchy-on-the-outside, tender-on-the-inside chicken nuggets were served with a side of crème fraîche and a generous dollop of caviar; it was fancy, indulgent, the pièce de résistance of girl dinner. And too many crispy, truffle fries were enjoyed.

With our savory and salty cravings satisfied, we needed a sweet treat or two. Executive Pastry Chef Eric Snow’s menu features desserts that include a Ginger Crème Brûlée with house-made pomegranate sorbet; Apple Bread Pudding with bourbon anglaise and cinnamon house-made ice cream; Pecan Marjolaine Cake and a variety of house-made ice creams and sorbets by the scoop.
We indulged in the Crème Brûlée and Apple Bread Pudding. The flavor profiles and textures were expertly balanced. The cold, tart pomegranate sorbet offset the sweetness of the decadent Crème Brûlée, and the lightness of the cinnamon ice cream juxtaposed against the rich bread pudding was a heavenly pairing. Our desserts were incredibly delicious and the perfect note to end our evening on.
Bar Margot serves dinner daily. Fridays and Saturdays, a DJ spins from 8 pm to midnight. Bar Margot is located inside Four Seasons Hotel Atlanta at 75 14th Street N.E., Atlanta, GA 30309. www.barmargotatl.com
