Comedian Fortune Feimster takes Atlanta on October 18th
Comedian, actress, and host Fortune Feimster, known best for her Netflix comedy specials, “Fortune Feimster: Crushing It” (2024), “Good Fortune” (2022) and “Sweet & Salty” (2020), and from my favorite TV shows, “The Mindy Project” and “Champions,” is on her national “Takin’ Care of Biscuits” tour. We caught up with Fortune ahead of her performance, on Saturday, October 18th at Atlanta Symphony Hall and here’s what she had to say.
What can your audience expect during your “Takin’ Care of Biscuits” comedy show?
Fortune Feimster: “It’s all new material since the last time I was in Atlanta. It’s a very fun, silly show that gives people a peek into what’s going on in my life currently. I also have some fun childhood stories that bring up that nostalgia factor. People seem to really be enjoying it, so I’m having a blast on the road with this tour. “
What’s the meaning/significance behind your tour name, “Takin’ Care of Biscuits?”
FF: “Well, being Southern, I, of course, have a soft spot for biscuits. It’s something I talk about a lot. And I just think it’s a funny word. So, it just seemed fitting to name my tour this. I think when you see a name like that, you know it’s going to be a silly time. And that’s what I want people to experience right now. Some levity.”
What are you most excited about doing while you’re here in Atlanta? Any local favorite spots?
FF: “I love Atlanta. I’ve filmed two movies there in the last year, so I’ve gotten to know it a lot better. I love that it’s a big city with lots of cool restaurants, but then it’s also so green with all the trees and I love walking on the Beltline. I recently ate at Banshee in East Atlanta; that was great. I love getting coffee at PERC. Sotto Sotto is a really good Italian spot. I always want to hit up the spots I like but I’m also really enjoying trying new spots.”
What’s the most out-of-the-ordinary thing to happen to you while you were performing on stage?
FF: “I choked on a piece of cheese once [laughs]. I wasn’t actually eating cheese on stage. I had some before the show and then in the middle of the show I had to cough and a piece of cheese came flying out of my mouth and I started choking. I said, ‘OMG, did you guys see that cheese fly out of my mouth?!’ And they were like, ‘We sure did.’”
I know it was a successful show when….
“You hear a huge roar of laughter and applause at the end of the show. You look out and just see a sea of smiles. It’s the best feeling in the world and the thing I love most about this job.”
