OVO by Cirque du Soleil in Metro Atlanta: A Bug-Inspired Show & Performer Spotlight

Step into the fascinating world of insects with “OVO,” a mesmerizing Cirque du Soleil show. This unique, non-narrative performance immerses viewers in the life of a bug. Get ready to be amazed by the stunning visuals—the vibrant costumes, jaw-dropping acts, and the seemingly impossible movements performed by the cast. Whether you’re a fan of Cirque du Soleil or looking for something fun, “OVO” is a show for all ages- no kids required. Lucky for Metro Atlanta, the show is coming to Duluth’s Gas South Arena from August 7-10, so you won’t want to miss it!

The title “OVO” carries two unique meanings. When directly translated from Portuguese, it means “egg.” The name also has a playful resemblance to insects, with the Os representing its eyes and the V forming the nose and antennas. (How cute is that?)

What makes “OVO” truly unique is the opportunity it gives the audience to connect with the characters through their natural emotions and moments of vulnerability or humor. “Because there’s no actual speaking, audience members can interpret the characters in their own way, recognizing themselves in the different emotional states and interactions of the bug characters,” says performer Charlotte Fallu.

Spotlight on Performer Charlotte Fallu

Meet one of the talented performers bringing “OVO” to life: Charlotte Fallu. If you look closely during the show, you’ll spot her as a black spider performing acrobatics and a colorful and playful flea in the Chinese pole act. Charlotte’s been part of the show for three years, but before that, she graduated from École Nationale de Cirque, a prestigious circus school in Montreal. (Isn’t that so cool?)

There, she learned and mastered the art of the Chinese pole (among many other circus disciplines). Although she makes it look effortless, she admits it wasn’t always that way. “My first week was so difficult,” she laughs. “My arms and legs were dead. But of course, you get used to it and find ways to stay in a relaxed position… and I’m doing air quotes because there’s not much relaxing about it,” she jokes. Now, Charlotte practices daily and performs year-round, flawlessly combining strength and flair.

While you’re captivated by the show, Charlotte’s favorite part is seeing the “joy and magic” in the eyes of the audience-especially first-timers. It’s the most rewarding aspect of her performance.
