The Vivacious Virginia-Highland Neighborhood

Virginia-Highland, also known as “VaHi”, is one of the most culturally important neighborhoods in Atlanta. The history of the neighborhood is an example of the resiliency of Atlanta natives. In the early 1970s, residents formed the Virginia-Highland Civic Association (VHCA) to successfully combat I-485, an interstate highway that would’ve run through the neighborhood, among others. The VHCA is still around today and still committed to promoting the best interests of its home.

As one of Atlanta’s most stellar and lively neighborhoods, it’s clear why the VHCA has been around for over 50 years. Virginia-Highland is a picturesque community in northeast Atlanta, featuring multiple parks, including John Howell Park and Orme Park. Committees are actively involved in preserving the well-being of the parks.

On the Virginia Highland District website, there is a comprehensive list of restaurants, businesses, and services available in the area. The contact information and location of all the businesses are provided on the website as well. There is no shortage of thriving businesses in the district, such as Highland Eye Boutique or Virginia Highland Books

February 7th marked the inaugural Virginia-Highland Mardi Gras celebration that started with a parade then transitioned into a party with live music, attractions, and local vendors. The Mardi Gras celebration was sponsored by Highland Diamond, the official jeweler of the Virginia-Highland district.

Established in 2024, the Virginia Highland Farmers Market (VHFM) has been instrumental in bringing the community closer together. Fresh produce, artisanal jewelry, and prepared foods are all available for patrons. Georgia farmers, local vendors, and Virginia-Highland residents all reap benefits from the time and effort invested into the VHFM. The 2026 VHFM season will start on April 12th and conclude on November 22nd.

On May 16th, Virginia-Highland will celebrate Porchfest, a celebration of live music performances. Hence the name, the bands performing at Porchfest will perform on the porches of the homes of Virginia-Highland residents. High-profile sponsors like Atlanta United FC and the Atlanta Falcons are supporting sponsors of Porchfest. The festival will also include a variety of food trucks.

The residents of Virginia-Highland have built and maintained a pristine community that serves as a reminder of all that can be achieved when people come together. It’s a beautiful and bustling neighborhood where people can find anything from a quaint night of live music at a bar to the love of their lives. All signs point to the future shining even brighter than the present for Virginia-Highland.
