As summer ends, there are several ways to transition home decor pieces to match the autumn aesthetic. While the task may seem daunting and expensive, American Home Furniture has a few tips to elevate a home space for the upcoming fall season.

To transition furniture pieces for the fall season, you do not need to buy a completely new catalog of furniture. In fact, adding a few statement pieces, such as new pillows or blankets in warmer colors, can infuse your existing furniture with autumn elegance.
“Pillows and throw blankets are two of the easiest ways to transition your home from late summer into fall. Look for warmer tones and subtle textures that feel seasonal without being overly fall-specific,” Darioush Yaraghi, founder and head of interiors at American Home Furniture, said. “Think earthy greens, muted blues, warm neutrals, and natural textures – pieces that can easily layer into your space as the seasons change.”
The colors chosen for transitional pieces don’t have to be typical fall colors, like orange, brown, or nude. You can easily incorporate earthy tones, like Yaraghi said, to add to new pieces. Colors like olive green or deep plum can clearly send the fall message.
Fall decor can quickly feel cliché if you slap leaf or pumpkin patterns onto every item. You can navigate transitional pieces without owning season-specific pieces.
“Incorporate warm tones, cozy textures, and soft, ambient lighting to bring in that fall feeling without relying on obvious seasonal décor. It’s really about layering in subtle changes that make a space feel warmer and cozier while still feeling like your home,” Yaraghi said.
Instead, a new trend of ‘pattern-maxxing’ has begun to slowly replace traditional autumn decor. This new trend encourages customers to combine many different patterns and textures to the point of maximalist coherence.
“Mixing different prints and patterns to create a warm, eclectic look. It’s an easy way to bring in some fall warmth without going too literal,” Yaraghi said. “Try pairing a plaid pillow or throw with warm-toned block prints or stripes. Mixing patterns adds that layered, collected feel that naturally makes a space feel cozier.”

American Home Furniture believes that lighting is an important factor in transforming a space for the season. Using warm lights, like lamps, is one of the quickest ways to adapt a home for fall. Ditch the overhead light and use smaller lamps for a cozier feel.
“As the days get shorter, adding lamps and cozy lighting is an easy way to create that warm fall glow. If you can, skip the overhead lights and opt for table lamps, sconces, and even small reading lights to create a more intimate, cozy atmosphere,” Yaraghi said.
While transitioning into the new season can feel overwhelming, incorporating small fall-esque pieces can quickly and effectively spice up your space for sweater weather.
