Founder Simone spent eight years as a pastry chef at the Hilton while dreaming of one day opening a bakery of her own. With time, determination, and encouragement from her husband, she took the leap to turn that dream into reality. As they celebrated the milestone, her husband proudly exclaimed, “Atta girl!”—a simple phrase that inspired the bakery’s name and perfectly reflects the support and confidence that helped bring Simone’s vision to life.

The Heart of Atta Girl
Behind Atta Girl Bakery are generations of women including Simone’s mom and grandma, along with her husband’s mom and grandmas. All of these women passed down recipes and helped Simone find her love and talent baking and catering to others. Specifically, Simone’s southern cake recipes come from her husband’s meemaws, making these classics even more meaningful. Another old fashioned southern classic, the Coca Cola cake, is coming back at Atta Girl. Simone spends significant time decorating these “true to the south” cakes, going above and beyond to elevate each dessert. Thus there is more than delicious ingredients in Simone’s desserts; beautiful memories, love, and history add to the experience as well.
Simone understands that crafting desserts for customers is important and meaningful as she is essentially making a dream come true. She definitely feels the pressure, but it’s clear she thoroughly enjoys putting time and effort into each client. This attention to detail has attracted numerous repeat customers. Specifically one family who has turned to Atta Girl’s custom cakes for years. Simone baked their daughter’s first birthday cake and recently crafted her Holy Communion cake. It’s this level of care and consistency that keeps customers returning to Atta Girl for life’s biggest celebrations. Her principle is “if I’m not going to eat it or feed it to my family, I won’t offer it.”
Giving back to the community is extremely important to Atta Girl. The bakery gives a percentage of its proceeds to the AT&T scholarship program and works with Emory Children’s Hospital where they offer healthy breakfast pastries to the kids. Simone believes that when you’re blessed, you have an obligation to give back and that is exactly what she does. With her impressive attention to detail, her perseverance, and her inspiring selflessness, Simone has built a beautiful establishment that is sure to put a smile on anyone’s face.
